Persistence & Endurance in '08!
Joe Saragusa, Lead Pastor

GrowHopefully as we enter this new year, there is something inside each of us that wants to become better in '08!  There are many things we can do to make the most of the opportunity to move forward and make some great changes in our lives.

But if there is one thing that I believe will enable us to gain the most mileage this year, it is this...  Recognize the value of persistence and endurance.  Persistence and endurance will help us to achieve goals, make changes, overcome obstacles, tap into potential and do great things in 2008!

Persistent people begin their journey to success where most people quit. One person with commitment, persistence, and endurance will accomplish more than a thousand people with interest and desire alone. The more diligent we work, the harder it is to quit.  Persistence is a habit; so is quitting.

Many times we allow ourselves to focus on how much money, ability, or resources we are starting with.  Remember it's not what you have, it is what you do with what you have that makes all the difference.  As Christ followers we should be known as people of persistence and endurance.

In the Far East the people plant a tree called the Chinese bamboo. In the first four years they water and fertilize the plant with what seems like no visible results.  But then in the fifth year, everything changes.  If they continue to fertilize and water, the Chinese bamboo tree will grow ninety feet in five weeks!  The point is that the tree did not actually grow ninety feet in five weeks... it grew ninety feet in five years.  If at any point the people had given up and stopped watering and fertilizing, it would have died, and the world never would have seen the full potential of this amazing plant!

It is the same in our lives.  The scripture says in Galatians 6:9, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Many times our dreams and plans appear to be failing.  We are tempted to give up.  Don't give up!  Don't throw in the towel!

Instead let me challenge you to keep nurturing what God has deposited into your heart.  The harvest WILL come.  The victory will be yours.  But you must persevere!  And before you know it, you will be standing on the other side of the finish line... victorious!

May 2008 be a year of great accomplishments for and with God!

Honored to journey with you,

Pastor Joe

The Main Thing
Joe Saragusa, Lead Pastor

Everything changes. Fads change, fashions change. Psychology changes. Diets change.  People change.

The Bible says in Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers, and the flowers fade, but the Word of our God stands forever."

The people who have made the greatest impact on this world, for good or bad, are those who had the deepest convictions. They weren't necessarily the smartest people, the brightest people, the most educated, the wealthiest, or even the most famous.  But they stood for what they believed in and never wavered.

What will you go to the mat for? What are your non-negotiables?  What is set in stone and unchangeable in your life?  Hopefully we all have some deeply held beliefs and convictions that serve as the foundation of our lives.

As a church, we will journey through many seasons this year, ups and downs, victories and temporary setbacks, highs and lows.  But there a few things that will always remain at the core and center of our heart and soul... convictions and beliefs that will never change... these are what I call "The Main Thing."

THESE ARE THE FOUNDATIONAL CONVICTIONS OF CELEBRATE CHURCH...

Margins
Joe Saragusa, Lead Pastor

I'm very excited about our Fresh Start series this month.  I hope you can join us this Sunday for the final week in the series.

As a church and as individuals it's a great opportunity to start fresh!  We all desire a fresh start at times in our lives.  We all want to move forward in life and discover meaning along the way...

I honestly believe that our world is full of people that NEED a fresh start.  As we look around, we can see that a lot of people are on overload and honestly headed for a crash.  Consider what our lifestyles reveal to us... we sleep less, we spend too much time on the run, we eat all the wrong things (due to the pace of life)... believe it or not you would even be surprised to find how much time we actually spend opening and reading junk mail!

Simply put, we're stressed by the pace of life.

Is there a solution? Yes. The solution is to establish margins into our lives.  Margins create breathing room and help us manage the busyness of life. Margins are the lines on the paper we stay within.  Margin is the space between your load and your limit. Hopefully your load is not heavier than your limits. But the truth is that most of us are far more overloaded than we can handle, and there is no margin for error in our lives.

Margin, on the other hand, is having breath at the end of a 40 yard sprint, money at the end of the month, and sanity at the end of parenting day. Margin is relationships you can lean on for support. Margin is having a friend help carry the burden.  Margin is having the time to read a good book (twice).  Margin is counter-culture, having some space in your life and schedule.

Here are four immediate benefits you will experience by adding some margins to your life:

1 - When you're not hurrying and worrying all the time, you have time to think.
Time to relax. Time to enjoy life.

2 - It builds in time for better health. Let's not wait for the heart attack or
the doctor's "now or never" report.

3 - Relationships become stronger.  Husband and wives, parents and children, and even social relations.  The truth is relationships take time, and margins provide the time to sit and talk, to listen and enjoy one another, and to provide the comfort each of us needs.

4 - It creates time for us to be available to God.  Being available to God for His use makes all the difference in this world.  When God taps you on the shoulder and says, "I'd like you to do this for me," your first response should be joy simply because you have time. Don't miss another opportunity because of self absorbed schedule to receive joy out of life by serving others!

You don't have to live on overload. You don't have to live in survival mode.  Begin today to build a buffer around your schedule. Create some breathing room... then enjoy the benefits of margin -- and see what God does next!

A FRESH START BEGINS NOW.

Doing Life Together,
Pastor Joe

A Call to Prayer
Joe Saragusa, Lead Pastor
   prayer
Prayer changes things, influences people, opens doors, and provides results when all your human effort has availed none.   But most of all prayer changes me as a person and it brings change to the world!

Prayer draws me closer to God.  We rely on God to show us, teach us, and to guide us.  David writes in Psalms 24:4-5, "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."  When God shows me, He has my heart; when God
teaches me, He has my mind; when God guides me, He has my hand.  When we pray, we grow in strength and wisdom to meet the visions and challenges we pray for!

Prayer provides a path to experience and live our full potential as a Christ follower. Because you have declared that Christ leads and oversees your life, you have access to God's power and authority, and you access that power and authority through prayer.

God's hand moves when we who are part of the Christ community pray together.
There are multiple stories that can be written in volumes attesting to the changes in our world as a result of Christians praying together.  Through prayer, the impossible becomes possible.  Through prayer, God multiplies our
efforts.  Whenever God determines to do a great work He first sets His people to pray!

God wants us to pray.  Listen to this promise that Jesus told His disciples in John 16:23-24,  "I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.  Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete."  When I think about 2008 for you as a person, as a family and for people I get excited about the potential life change that can take place.

This a great and exciting season for Celebrate Church!  So many great things are happening.  40 Days of Purpose is just around the corner,  and there are opportunities that will be available to us where we can impact thousands with great message of Christ.  But it MUST be bathed in prayer to see it's full potential reached!

There are many other opportunities and exciting things happening in 2008.  This Sunday is Vision Night - I really do hope you can attend.  We will share with you some of those opportunities and call each of you to lock your faith together in prayer as we ask God to do what humanly cannot be done for His kingdom, but only done through the prayer of His followers!

I am calling on you to stand with me in prayer in 2008, and let's be amazed at what God will do!!

Praying and Growing Together,
Pastor Joe
